Brazil's postal code is the CEP (Código de Endereçamento Postal), eight digits written as five digits, a hyphen and three digits, for example 01310-100. Correios, the national postal operator, assigns codes down to the level of a street segment, and large buildings and organizations can have a CEP of their own.
Look up a CEP
Use the official Correios Busca CEP tool. You can search by address to find the code, or by code to find the street and city.
What the digits mean
The first digit identifies a postal region (São Paulo state uses 0 and 1, Rio Grande do Sul uses 9), the following digits narrow down to sub-region, sector and subsector, and the three digits after the hyphen identify the delivery segment. Always write the full eight digits with the hyphen.
