International postal codes

Mexico postal code lookup

Mexico uses five-digit postal codes called códigos postales, administered by Correos de México (formerly SEPOMEX). The first two digits identify the state or, for Mexico City, the borough group, and the remaining digits narrow down to a neighbourhood (colonia).

Look up a código postal

The official source is Correos de México, which offers a search by state, municipality and colonia as well as a downloadable national catalogue. Because one code often covers several colonias, always confirm the colonia name together with the code.

Writing a Mexican address

JUAN PÉREZ
AV. INSURGENTES SUR 123, COL. ROMA NORTE
06700 CUAUHTÉMOC, CDMX
MEXICO

The postal code goes before the municipality and state on the same line. Include the colonia; it is part of the address in Mexico.

Mexico and U.S. ZIP codes

A Mexican five-digit code looks like a U.S. ZIP but belongs to a different system, and entering it in a U.S. lookup returns an unrelated U.S. place or nothing at all. If you live in the United States and need your ZIP, see ¿Cuál es mi código postal? in Spanish.
