Mail between two U.S. ZIP codes usually takes 1 to 5 days, depending on the service you choose and how far apart the ZIP codes are in the USPS processing network. The quickest way to get an estimate for your exact route is to enter both ZIP codes in the USPS Postage Price Calculator.

Get an estimate for your two ZIP codes
- Open the USPS Postage Price Calculator.
- Enter the origin and destination ZIP codes and the date you plan to mail.
- Choose the shape and size of your item.
- Compare the services listed; each shows its expected delivery time.
Why distance is only part of the answer
Mail moves through regional processing centers, so two ZIP codes 50 miles apart but served by different centers can take longer than two that are farther apart but share a network. Remote areas, Alaska, Hawaii and the territories often take longer. Our ZIP code distance calculator gives straight-line miles, which is useful context but not a delivery estimate.
Tracking and delays
Services with a tracking number can be followed on USPS Tracking. If a delivery date passes, check tracking first, then contact USPS. Make sure the destination ZIP is right before you mail: look up the ZIP for the address.
